Two-Thousand-Eleven Wrap-Up

2011

As the year comes to an end we would like to thank everyone who has supported SunWorks Photography, specifically those who’ve taken time out of their schedules in the last 12-months to participate in one of our projects. This post is a summary of the projects and shoots that we’ve done in 2011. Enjoy!

Twenty-eleven was a slow year for SunWorks Photography as one of the main projects that we’re involved with (SWIMBOOK) took a short break during the first half of the year to accommodate the schedule of it’s lead photographer, but we did manage to squeeze in a swimsuit photoshoot with Kellene Chun and Amanda Paige just before SunWorks Photography went on it’s annual hiatus during the months of February through April.

In May we flew out to San Francisco, California for a week-long vacation – our first vacation in over 3-years – and we came back refreshed and ready to get back to work just in time for the opening of the summer swimsuit photo season. Unfortunately it didn’t work out as planned as SWIMBOOK remained on a schedule-related hiatus but in this downtime PROJECT HEADSHOT was born.
Through PROJECT HEADSHOT we met four (4) wonderful participants who graciously opened up and shared some of their life stories with us. Some of their stories were filled with laughter while others ventured down a somber road but none the less we were fortunate to take a lesson away from each person which we will share with you in our final product.

Lauren A. was our first subject who, at the time, was going through a transitional phase in her life and she graciously allowed us to intrude into her personal space and to listen to her innermost thoughts on topics ranging from parenthood, career and personal faults.

Lori-Ann K. was our second subject who taught us the importance of living life to it’s fullest and embracing the setbacks and successes that life has to offer. She also taught us the importance of creating our own life projects which will one day transform into our legacy left behind for our future generations.

Justin A. was scheduled to be our first subject for this project but we postponed his shoot to accommodate his schedule as he was the primary caretaker for his ailing Grandmother. Sadly Grandma Bruna passed away on August 18, 2011. Less than a month later Roux, Justin’s beloved dog of 10-years, also passed away adding another burden to his already heavy heart but through everything he agreed shoot with us in October.

Cheryl-Ann S. was our last subject of the year and one of the most inspirational person that we’ve met. A registered nurse in the oncology ward she tends to terminal patients and witnesses death and sorrow on a daily basis but through it all she views her job as a blessing to be able to provide comfort to her patients and it allows her to appreciate things that many of us take for granted. Cheryl and her associates have been dubbed “The Angles on 7B”.

In November we had an opportunity to go on-location with Donard Sonoda of 808 Video Productions for a Japanese promotional video that was shot at a residence in the upscale Kahala neighborhood. The Japanese company that’s putting this promotional video together has sent their producers all over the world to gather footage for the compilation video using local talent. The footage shot by 808 Video Productions highlighted one of Hawaii’s most notable contribution to the fashion world – Aloha Shirts.

The highlight of our year by far was reuniting with local model/actress, LV Alberto, to update her swimsuit portfolio. We’ve worked with this beauty in the past but we were astounded with the progress that she made since our last shoot and she totally rocked the day. LV is one of the few people under the age of 40 who doesn’t subscribe to social sites such as Facebook and Twitter but keep an eye out for this girl in the future.

As we say goodbye to twenty-eleven we’re excited to welcome in twenty-twelve as there will be some changes in store for SunWorks Photography, including the relocation of our administrative office and we will soon have an outdoor studio which will give us the flexibility to create new projects in a more controlled environment. We will continue to develop and build on PROJECT HEADSHOT and although we have a handful of participants scheduled to shoot in the next few weeks we are always looking for new faces and inspirational stories.

Anyone interested in participating in PROJECT HEADSHOT can contact Garran Chun (sunworksphoto@garranchun.com) for additional details and scheduling.

Happy New Years!
